Another new release of our most popular Joomla Extension, the Template Chooser. It was reported that the previous version sometimes failed because of a conflict between the choosen template and the default template. To prevent this, the plugin will now change the Joomla Template after initialisation in stead of after dispatch. As a result, the default template isn't loaded any more and can no longer cause a conflict with the choosen template.
Two items about our Joomla Extensions have been added to the FAQ. The first one explains how you can modify the Template Chooser to change the template with a link in stead of the selection box. This question was asked already a number of times, so it was about time we added this to the FAQ. Read more in How can I change the template with a link?
As you might know, the most popular of our Joomla extensions is the Template Chooser. For the people who don't know this Joomla module: with this module your visitors can change the template in the front-end. A few months ago I've noticed there was a new extension in the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) called Template Changer. This new extension did exactly the same what our Template Chooser was already doing for quit some time. In an earlier post, I've mentioned already that I think this is one of the major problems of the JED: too many extensions are doing the same thing, which makes it hard for the users to find the right extension. I verified this new module wasn't just a copy of our module, but this wasn't the case. The code was quit different. But I was really not amused with this. The problem I have with these kind of modules is that they are not created for the benefit of the users, as they only copy functionality that already exists. The authors of these kind of Joomla extensions are creating this to get traffic to their site.
There is a new major release of our most popular Joomla Extension, the Template Chooser. The old version could have a problem in combination with forms. e.g. the checkout procedure of Virtuemart made the template go back to the default template. The reason was that the old Template Chooser module redirected the page to a new template, but the problem was that a redirect could not copy the POST parameters. The new Template Chooser solves this by changing the template in a plugin before the template is loaded. This means that a page redirect is no longer needed and as a result the page will load faster.
Yet another version of the Template Chooser has been released. This one contains a workaround for the issue in the Joomla core file application.php (more info on this issue in our FAQ). This means it is no longer needed to patch the Joomla Core to make the module work.
